(Georgetown, June 08, 2018) - Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) in its continued efforts to ensure optimum efficiency of its operations and better serve its customers has intensified its use of data loggers to monitor its facilities.
The loggers monitor pressure and flow of water at pump stations, water treatment plants and distribution networks on the coast.
Seventy-eight (78) data loggers have thus far been installed on networks in Regions 3, 4, 6 and 10 and GWI hopes to complete the remaining regions by the end of September, 2018.
According to GWI’s Executive Director of Operations, Mr. Dwayne Shako, this allows the utility to better monitor its facilities on a 24 hour basis from any single location or mobile device at any given time.
The logger senses any increase or decrease in pressure and flow and instantaneously relays this information to a web-based server.
This information is then sent to relevant officials, via text message and an e-mail, if the pressure or flow drops below a pre-determined level.
Once alerted, the necessary action is taken to determine the reason for the reduced level of service, which may include a leaking flush-out valve, damaged main, a fire hydrant in use, loss of power or any other electrical fault. Appropriate measures are then taken to address same.
The Operations Director said that rather than waiting for customer complaints about low pressure and no level of service, the loggers would enable GWI to have an early indication and intervene swiftly.
GWI was introduced to the device when representatives attended a conference in the Unites States of America.
