UPRGRADES TO VERGENOEGEN WATER TREATMENT PLANT NEAR COMPLETION

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is pleased to announce that the ongoing major upgrades to the Vergenoegen Water Treatment Plant, which are set to significantly improve water supply and quality for residents of Region 3 are near completion. These developments include the addition of two new filtration units and the installation of a new well, scheduled to be operational soon.

The introduction of the two new filters is aimed at enhancing the plant’s ability to remove impurities, ensuring that residents receive a more reliable and cleaner water supply. Additionally, the new well will bolster the water production capacity, catering to the growing needs of the communities served by the Vergenoegen plant.

These upgrades are part of the Government of Guyana’s effort to ensure the increase of treated water coverage to 90% by 2025 through the Coastal Water Treatment Infrastructure Programme (CWTIP) Upon completion, residents in areas such as ZeelugtVergenoegen, Tuschen, and surrounding villages can expect improved water pressure and better overall service delivery.

GWI CEOMr. Shaik Baksh recently inspected the works that are being carried out to upgrade the facility that will tremendously benefit the residents served by the Water Treatment Plant. GWI’s continued commitment to improving water infrastructure across the country, ensuring that every citizen has access to safe and adequate water supply continues to be exemplified with the investments that are being made in the water sector.
