GWI CEO Leads Inspection of Weldaad Small Inline Filters, Bringing Treated Water to Residents for the First Time
The Chief Executive Officer of Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), Mr. Shaik Baksh, led a team of engineers to inspect the testing of the Weldaad inline filters for a small water treatment plant. For the first time, residents of Profit Village to Jacoba Village are now served treated water, marking a significant milestone in Region 5’s water infrastructure.
During the visit, the team engaged with residents, who expressed satisfaction with the improved water quality and increased water pressure available in their communities. Residents noted the immediate benefits of the treated water supply, particularly in health, sanitation, and daily household activities. The Weldaad system, which has a distribution output of 3 megaliters per day (MLD), represents a significant step in GWI's ongoing efforts to expand access to safe and reliable water nationwide.
This initiative is part of the Coastal Water Treatment Infrastructure Programme (CWTIP), which the Government of Guyana finances. The programme aims to expand treated water coverage in Regions 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. The Weldaad Water Treatment Plant is one of several small treatment facilities being developed under this programme.
The Weldaad small inline filters will be officially commissioned soon, reinforcing GWI's mission to provide equitable and sustainable water solutions for all Guyanese.
